My story

My name is Birds. Thats right! Birds. As in “Birds of a feather…” or “Birds eye view” or “This job is for the…” or my least favorite quote, “You can kill two of me with one stone”. And I own and operate this awesome entertainment business.  And what is my business?
I BRING THE FUN!

I have been curating music since mix tapes were still a thing back in the 70’s and 80’s.  I think I put together my first compilation by holding up a cassette recorder to the family am/fm transistor radio when I was 10.  I remember my favorite song at the time was “Destroyer” by the Kinks.  On the weekends, I would wait up for hours just waiting for it to come on the radio.  Top 40 music on demand wasn't an option back then unless you purchased it on pre-recorded record or 8-track tape.  Now we've got Pandora, Spotify and iTunes...but I digress  .

Since then I have been working or playing in the music industry off and on for almost 30 years.  As a trumpet player in 1986, I went to college on a music scholarship.  A few years later, I got part time work at an independent radio station.  After graduation I got a "day job" as a Financial Planner, but still couldn't stay away from the business.  In the evenings, I would moonlight as a DJ in a nightclub called Desperadoes. For me, music is more than a passion.  It's oxygen.  My wife calls it "my happy place".

Ultimately, life happened and my financial planning career took off.  Fast forward to today.  My wonderful family continues to indulge my more creative side.  I started getting back into it slowly about 7 years ago.  My daughter was in middle school at the time and I was recruited to host her birthday bash as the entertainment, the MC and the DJ for her surprise party .  With 60 of her friends in attendance the party was a huge hit.  Since then, my events have gotten exponentially bigger along with my music collection and my equipment.  Today I'm sporting top of the line gear and over 80,000 songs in my ever growing music library.

For me, I think my competitive advantage as an MC and DJ is my personality and my love of people.  I truly LOVE my clients.  That's not a company line.  I love the work and I LOVE my clients.  It changes how you do what you do when you do it for love (someone should write a song about that).

When I think about why I started this business, I'm reminded of one of my favorite quotes by one of the most loving, kind, gracious and creative people ever to walk this earth:

"In life, you just have to decide whether you're a Tigger or an Eeyore."
                                                               ~Randy Pausch

There's no question for me, I'm a "T-i-double guh-er".

Linger Longer Entertainment allows me to continue to do well by doing good. Plus, in my work, I have the pleasure of being able to release my inner Tigger. What could be better?  T.T.F.N.
